International Cuisine Dinner

NKA's International Cuisine committee shared lots of fun in planning and hosting a special dinner commemorating the 75th anniversary of the movie The Wizard of Oz
Attendees in costume, left to right: Jim Mariani (The Wizard), Kathy Kratz (Tin Man), Marjean Waford (Dorothy), Sally McHargue (Scarecrow), Matthew Barker (Cowardly Lion), Liz Meske (Auntie Em), Catherine Cessna Barker (Dorothy), JoAn Dilweg (Rainbow), and Jeanne Davis (Wicked Witch of the West).
Catherine Cessna Barker and Matthew Barker delighted the crowd with a medley of hit songs from The Wizard of Oz. They had performed lead roles as high school theater students of JoAn Dilweg. JoAn also presented a list of fun and interesting facts about the movie and actors.
Guests dined on a multitude of specially-prepared dishes including Emerald salad, Wicked Witch Waldorf salad, horse-of-a-different-color jello salad, Munchkin riblets, Kansas cattle roast beef, no-brainer pumpkin soup, have-a-heart sausage skillet dinner, cowardly corn casserole, Auntie Em crullers, yellow brick road cornbread, and flying monkey berry pie.
The banquet room was lively with decorations and props, thanks to the dinner committee members. A large screen on the stage played the movie during dinner. A tiny pair of ruby red slippers, which also served as a book marker, adorned the cupcakes.
