Readers Theatre: "Tall Tales, Yarns, and a Tribute to Will Rogers

NKA's Readers Theatre presentation for February was "Tall Tales, Yarns, and a Tribute to Will Rogers."  The program began with "Super Bowl," read by Virginia Kelly,  "The Mule Eggs," read by Sharron Prokschl, "Babe, the Blue Ox," read by Patricia Devenberg, and "The Bunyans," read by Carole Hagler.
"The Legend of Pecos Bill" was shared by readers Lois Wellard, Carol Nelson, Grant Thomas, and Donna Thomas (emoting at right).

"How I Became a Pirate," by Melinda Long, featured Dawn Keller as the narrator, with Jim Mariani as the Pirate Greybeard, and other cast members as pirates, complete with eye patches, tattoos, and sundry other pirate paraphernalia.

Jane Riley and Donna Thomas presented bibliographic information about Will Rogers, interspersed with many of Rogers' most famous witticisms.
The rest of the afternoon's program included:
Linda Smith: "The Elephant's Child" by Rudyard Kipling
Grant Thomas: "The First Deer" by Patrick McManus
Georgie Russell: "The Night Grandma Shot Shorty"
      by Patrick MacManus
Carol Nelson: "No Nursing Home for Me" (anonymous)
Marg Griffin: "The Duel" by Eugene Field
Jim Mariani rounded out the afternoon's entertainment with an a cappella rendition of "The Scotsman's Song."

The next Readers Theatre performance will be on March 27, 2014. The Continuing Education Building will be open during ISU's Spring Break.
